Southern University of Science and Technology-University of Tokyo launched Super Smart City Joint Research Center

In December 2019, the South University of Science and Technology -- University of Tokyo Super Smart City Joint Research Center was established, with Professor Ryosuke Shibasaki as the director. The center focuses on the basic theoretical research of Artificial Intelligence, Big Data, Internet of Things, 5G and other advanced technologies related to smart cities and urban digitalization, as well as the application research oriented to major social needs, such as Urban Brain, Intelligent Transportation, Urban Emergency Response, and Urban Perception. By 2020, the research center will have a total of 31 undergraduates to carry out project practice and academic exchange activities and more than 8 graduate students/masters being jointly educated. In response to the Novel Coronavirus epidemic, the joint center developed the "Novel Coronavirus (CoVID-19) Transmission Modeling Prediction and Simulation Platform powered by flow Data and AI". At present, the joint center has carried out cooperation with Shenzhen CDC and Shenzhen Smart City Science and Technology Development Group Co., Ltd. to apply the platform to the regular and precise prevention and control of CoVID-19.
